The story of the Kamsutra is a legend that has travelled from one generation to another. This book in particular is a collection of around 4000 verses from around 400 slokas, in the form of kathas, which are short stories. It has been written by Moti Ranjan Dharmadhikari and published by Brihanmumbai Marathi Sanshodhak Mandal in 1945 A.D. The book was meant to have been released on Maha Shivratri 731 B.S., but owing to a delay they finally managed to release it on the next year’s Maha Shivratri 825 B.S.. This book is a collection of short stories which are based on the Kamsutra. Each story is mostly endearing and has some moral to it. The story of Anjani and Parvati follows the traditions from the Kamsutra story as per legend, where Anjani had asked Parvati to marry him after falling in love with him at first sight, but she rejected his proposal on account of her sister Padmini refusing his proposal. They later fell in love after a second time meeting each other. The following is one of the few instances where two characters from different generations fall in love. The story of Amba Bai and Ekanath follows a similar trend where Amba Bai loved Ekanath for his beauty and his intellect, but Ekanath did not reciprocate her feelings. It’s only later when they met again, after many years that they fell in love with each other. In this story, Ranjana’s father tries to marry her off to a very old man named Ishwar Shah because she is the only one left unmarried from a royal family. She loved a young man named Govindrao but agreed because she did not want her family's wealth to be taken away from them. When she gets married to Ishwar Shah, her husband tries to win her over by making her betray Govindrao, but she refuses and he leaves for another village after insulting her. This is where the story differs from the one in the Kamsutra . This is one of the stories that is also present in the Kamsutra where Satyavati falls in love with Shantanu who was disguised as a hunter. The story of Savitri follows closely to that of Satyavati’s except that Savitri only thinks that Satyavan is dead and decides not to marry again. This story is also that of Arundhati and Vichitra and follows that of that of Arundhati and Shantanu where Arundhati loves Vichitra but he does not return her feelings. The story is based on the Kamsutra where Rishi Gautam falls in love with Sumati as she has a mass on her head. Sumati falls in love with him but when she goes to meet him, he refuses to marry her because she is very "bazaar-like", instead hurt, she insults him by destroying his instruments. This story follows closely to that of Savitri falling in love with Satyavan because he died earlier. cfa1e77820
